Dude. Where’s My Milk? And Why Isn’t it in the Fridge?
When MomCentral asked if I wanted to review Horizon Organic Milk, I expected it to arrive in a special cooler type box. (You know, like the Yoplait Yogurt did.) Imagine my surprise and initial horror when it arrived, on a super hot day, in a box. And was left on my porch. In the sun. I about flipped out! I took it out of the box and then read that… it doesn’t have to be refrigerated. It’s magic milk. I mentioned it to my Husband as I put the milk where it goes, in the refrigerator, and he replied with some story about the Army. Apparently this isn’t unheard of and, let me tell you, I find it rather convenient.
As our family is making an attempt to go more green and more organic, milk tops our list of something that we need and want to be healthy. Horizon Organix milk is delivering that and, apparently, delivering some convenience to our already hectic life. I could use some convenience here and there, couldn’t you? (Before you whine about “is it really organic” here on my blog, go do your reading first. Then deliver all complaints to the company, not to me!)
I’m going to be honest. BigBrother only got to drink the plain white milk. He liked the red box and didn’t complain about any taste difference. It was easy for his almost-three-year-old hand to hold though I had to put the straw in for him. I tasted the other three flavors: strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. Not because I particularly like those three flavors but because, well, BigBrother hasn’t yet discovered chocolate milk and we’re really trying to hold off on that as long as humanly possible. (If you offer it to my child, I will bite you.) Let me tell you, while the strawberry and chocolate weren’t bad, that vanilla? I could have consumed a truck load. Now that was yummy stuff!
The only thing I didn’t like about the Horizon Organic milk boxes was the collapsible straw. It seemed to work for my son but I managed to get it to collapse into my box and lost it forever. I get the point of the collapsible straw but you should also know that it is not foolproof. Trust this fool.
We have started purchasing Horizon Organic milk boxes for our boy(s). It’s not our sole source of milk at this point. We’re buying the boxes as a level of convenience for travel, days out and so on. Because you will quickly know the wrath of BigBrother if you tell him that there isn’t any milk available. It is best to always have it on hand. Trust this fool again.
