Save Money & Win with Kodak (& BlogHer)

Kodak! The economy stinks. You can’t get around it. Even though where we live is relatively cheap to maintain our lifestyle, things have gotten more expensive. That’s just the way that it is. We’re doing little things to save money around here… we plan our menu so we can eat at home more often, we cloth diaper and we avoid splurging on things we simply don’t need.

Recently, I got to participate in a web conference with financial expert and author Laura Rowley sponsored by Kodak. She taught me quite a few money saving techniques by taking us through every room in the house. We took a few of her tips and are now spending less on our cable channels as well as being hyper-aware of electric vampires and water usage. Furthermore, the other awesome bloggers on the call exchanged tips on saving money in this economy. (What did I share? While on vacation or even a staycation, visit your local firehouse for a free afternoon of learning and fun! We do this on our vacations to create memories and have an afternoon where we spend absolutely no money.)

Working from home and also working with the boys on things like coloring and writing letters at home, I print quite a bit. I also print quite a few photos every week. So when I went to Kodak’s Print and Prosper website and calculated how much I could be saving on ink every year, I about fell off the couch. Since I print so much and use ink that is not particularly cheap, I could be saving over $400 per year. That’s right. I could use an extra $400 this year. Couldn’t you?

So, what did I think of our new Kodak All-in-One? I like it. I really do. Why? It was easy to set up, even with multiple computers in the house. It hasn’t yet given me an error message when attempting to print (though I’ve only had it a few days). The pictures it prints are clear and crisp. And, to prove the money savingness: the black ink cartridge will run us under $10 a pop while the color cartridge will be just under $15 each time. Doesn’t that sound heavenly?

Well, I’m giving you a chance to save money as well. We’re giving away a Kodak All-in-One printer to one lucky reader. How to win? Two ways!

1. Go to <a href=”http://www.kodak.com/global/mul/consumer/print/en_us/index.html?userLanguage=en-us&xmlURL=xml/dataFilesURLs.xml&firstPage=calculator” target=”_blank”>Kodak’s Print & Prosper Calculator</a> and find out how much you would save by switching. Come back here and tell me your magic number of potentially saved dollars in a comment on this post. You may do this once.

2. Tweet about this contest by copy/pasting this into your twitter stream: Save money & win with Kodak & BlogHer & @FireMom! Win a printer & a chance to go to BlogHer: http://tinyurl.com/SDBsave Until Fri, May 1! (You don’t need to comment with your URL. I keep track of these via mentions & a spreadsheet.) You may do this as often as you choose through May 1, 2009 at 3:00pm.

Giveaway runs through 3:00pm on Friday, May 1, 2009. I will then pull an entry via random.org and send it off to the company who will ship the printer direct to you. But wait, it gets better!

That winner will then be eligible to win a full scholarship to the <a href=”http://blogher.com” target=”_blank”>BlogHer</a> conference this year. You know, the sold out one. Yes. That one! Talk about saving money, for real! How very exciting! (I can’t attend BlogHer (again) this year due to something I can’t blog about as it involves a surprise for someone in our family. So I hope that if one of our readers wins the BlogHer prize, they will print out my picture and take it with them! You can afford to do that with your new printer, right? Right!)

Get to entering. Tweet your friends. And start saving money.

[By the way, pick up Laura Rowley's book Money and Happiness: A Guide to Living the Good Life for more tips.]

Apparently I would save $88.57 a year, but I’m sure it would be more, because my printer has been out of ink for almost 3 months, so I’m currently not printing much:)

  5. call_me_ps says:

Kodak says $310.20. I could use that!

  9. Marissa says:

    I would save $95.95 a year.
I have been out of ink for about two months now, I am glad I am not the only one who just goes with out printing until I finally break down and spend the money ;~)

  10. It looks like I could save about $103.87 a year but it would probably be more because right now I don’t print my own pictures because my printer is not nice enough – so I would save all that money I am spending paying shutterfly for pictures. :)

  12. MandyW says:

I would save $132.00 according to the site, but I would save a lot more, since I don’t routinely print off pics. If I had this printer I would though!

  13. Lucy says:

    $73.81.

they didn’t have my printer, it is too old and doesn’t work anyways :(

  16. You ready for it – $211.68! Yep the cost of a very inexpensive plane ticket is what I could be saving a year according to the very funky and fun interactive savings calculator.

I’d love to just sit and play with that thing all day. It’s fun to see how much people…cough….I am wasting! What’s great is this isn’t JUST a printer- oh it’s so much more! It’s a way to bring life back to photos. I have a photo of my husband’s grandmother. It’s basically the only one out there- not sure why but his family just did not dig the cameras! It would be so great to scan it in- do a little touch ups and print out a copy…or two…for everyone in the family.

What a wonderful gift that would make!

You know lately I’ve been standing at those little photo printing stands at my local drug store and I’m wondering how much I’d save in not having to go there anymore! Just think, no more waiting for the thing to load the pictures, cropping, editing, then waiting for it to print- then going to pay and OUCH!

I’d love to chill with the Kodak team at BlogHer ‘09 – so here’s to hoping I win :)

  17. Naomi says:

I am over $65.40, which would pay for about 3.5 hours of my BlogHer trip…

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  27. ursula says:

They say I would save close to $80.00, but I suspect it might be more because if I had this super-duper printer, I would do a heck of a lot more printing of photos………of my kids, my vacations, my house……..oh, the list could go on…..

    Diane

  39. Loks like i could save $58.23 a year…i have a Kodak Camera and I love it so I can only imigiane that their printer is just as good..thanks for the opportunity!

  40. Seriously! I would save 181.41 a year – how heavenly is that? And actually, it is probably even higher than that b/c I don’t print many pictures at home – I haven’t been happy with the quality…so, I have been printing them elsewhere.

Would be great to do them here again!

  41. They say I’ll overpay by $146 this year. Not too bad considering I print a LOT. But still… I could put that money towards the new laptop I need so badly! lol

  42. WOW, $97.14…I can’t believe it…well yes i can…I keep changing the cartridges. At least one color everytime I print a bunch of pictures! Plus it’s not the best copier in the world and not worth that!!
    Thanks for the opportunity!
